PRINCE REGENT ST

Overview

The renovation of this Victorian tenement was a personal project of mine and a real labour of love! Undertaking much of the work myself, the property was stripped back to allow for the modernisation of services as well as the restoration of period features. By redesigning room layouts and removing the door between the kitchen and living room, the property was made brighter and more open, making a small space feel much larger.

Process

Once a new heating system was installed, I focused on plastering the walls and ceilings to repair damages. The floorboards were then sanded and oiled to restore their original beauty. The original sash and case window frames were retained but the glass was replaced. Because the property lies within a conservation area, this needed to be a specialist slimline double glazing. At the rear of the property, bespoke shutters were installed - a minimalistic, contemporary version to reflect the style of the originals at the front of the property.

A new kitchen and bathroom were installed, both with custom made cabinets and hidden storage to maximise the space. Window seats were built in the kitchen and bedroom which allowed for further concealed storage.

The use of large mirrors, light colours and simple detailing created a visual consistency throughout the property and a light, open feel.
